***I'm safe to "Friend." I don't bite. Much. Well...on occassion...Nah. ;-) Please let me know why you'd like to friend me, or where you read my work/comments/whatever, as out-of-the-blue friending can be a tad disconcerting.***
WORDS TO LIVE BY:
- Good Writing? A Serious Turn on!
- A Wonderful Sense of Humor? Hell, yes! Even more so.
(Even better than a dirty bass riff - or a nasty tenor sax solo - or a good blues hook....Heh.)
Logical Conclusion: No, I am not a "nice girl." I just "play one on TV," and act the part really, really well in real life (well...to most folks that is...heh, again. Mae West? Hee!)
I write, do entertainment-related PR, script analysis, photo edit, still photography, voice-over work, some on-air work (you thought I was kidding, didn't you?), sing, paint, dance, and sleep (in my spare time.) In former lives, I have been a radio DeeJay, worked with rock bands (and other genres, too), and worked in a series of brief (and often wacky) jobs (especially, thankfully, while still in school).
***NEW QUOTES***
"My specialty roles are Louche, Brio, and Bravura." - Tim Curry - (How MUCH do I love you!?)
"Life is too short for boring boots, uncomfortable shoes, and other peoples' expectations." -- Me
"I spend my life tangoing with Bathos...and I like it!" -- Me (7/09) (FYI - Google "NARM")
To clarify my interests (below) as LJ is rather pedantic:
I like...
- Actors with range: i.e. mostly Brits (okay, I'm biased), Richard Armitage, David Tennant, Viggo Mortensen, James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman, Alan Arkin, Chow Yun Fat, Meryl Streep, Helen Mirren, Juliet Stevenson, Lena Olin, Helena Bergström, Stellan Skarsgård, Alex Skarsgård, (love my Swedes & Chinese folks, too!) Rufus Sewell, Denis Lawson, Johnny Depp, Michelle Yeoh, Gong Li, Maggie Cheung, Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson, Tim Curry, Ralph Fiennes, Nathan Fillion, and tons of British stage folk who you may not have heard of yet, but will soon. Watch MASTERPIECE THEATRE, fer gosh sakes! With the exception of Armitage & McAvoy, PBS had them well before BBC America. (And do I REALLY need to remind you of BBC America, A & E, and SciFi's (SyFy? Oh, please!) egregious cutting-for-commericals standards (a.k.a. hacking with a chainsaw)?...I didn't think so.
- British Theatre (West End, non-West End, regional, rep, all) - I'm sure Broadway is cool - I've just, ironically, never been...
- Comedians (Robin Williams, Billy Connelly, Ben Elton, Eddie Izzard, Craig Ferguson, Lewis Black, Dennis Leary, Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders, French & Saunders (yes, together too) and who else but...Monty Python)
- Music, (all, though not over-the-top on hardcore rap, techno/industrial, and speedmetal & deathmetal leave me utterly...uhh...cold. And hardcore '90s grunge (Seattle?) that takes itself waaay too seriously. Meh. Please.)
- Art & Photography (all sorts -- even elephants with a brush have something to offer! And no, that's not (necessarily) a swipe at my more annoying brethern). And Mark Rothko at the Tate Modern is incredibly cool! (Thank you, Simon Schama, for turning me on to him. PBS rocks!) Now if I can only get to the Musee d'Orsay, someday...because the French Impressionists "in the flesh?" From what I have seen over the years? Incredible. Some say cliche. I say, au contraire.
- Singers (who can legitimately sing, as opposed to needing compression, effects, etc.)
- Good Musicians (ditto, please note the clarifier; especially those who don't just sample a riff and can actually WRITE and PLAY! Thank you Alicia Keys, for giving me hope!)
- Cool, modern Native American Jewelry (Michael Horse, Christina Eustace, Denise Wallace, Liz Wallace)
- 1940s high-heeled, platform pumps. Yes, indeedy. The kind that make the angels dance! With perhaps a peep toe. That were well-made, and made women's legs look sexy when they walked and worked in them all day. Mmmm. Think: Betty Grable.
- Cowboy/Western boots - All kinds, but especially multi-colored vintage, cutdowns, peewees, shorties, i.e. interesting and unique boots. Wearable art, essentially.
My, what utterly random interests! And yes, the list (as is life), is ever evolving.
Random Thoughts:
- Spellcheck -- one of the miracles of the modern age.
- I am highly individualistic, yet like watching judged sports such as ice skating and gymnastics, while hating the judging and the politics involved. Go figure. So am guarenteed enjoyment and annoyance every time I tune in. And still, I keep coming back. Ah, perversity.
- My Intended Headstone Epitaphs:
1. (Per my Mom re: me & too many theatrical, etc., job experiences) "I did it for the resume."
2. "It wasn't my best laid plan." (props to Eddie Izz.)
3. But I still like Keith Richards' intended -- "I told you I was sick." (Pretty hilarious if one thinks of Robin Williams' Keith Richards routine, where Keith has some Anthrax to go with his E. coli.)
And not to be outdone, Oscar Wilde's last words "Either that wallpaper goes, or I do." (If I can't go in my sleep, I want to go amused and cracking quips a la Oscar.)
- Thanks "moetushie" for the icon - love it! So versatile...and true!
I have recently found out that the quote:
"One of the most basic survival rules on any planet is never to upset someone wearing black leather." is actually by U.K. author Terry Pratchett, from his book "The Last Continent" (1998).
Silly me, I thought it had been designed with Torchwood in mind. Still, it works very well for Guy of Gisborne, Captain Jack, Xena, most Rockers...and ME... especially if I'm feeling badass, snarky, snarly, unduly put-upon, in need of some added power (we all have *those* days), or am just similarly clad myself. Heh. Scared yet? No? RATS! Denied again!
(Or perhaps I'm merely being clothing-appropriate (with jeans & boots, natch) for a Chicago blues club...unlike some of my conference colleagues who showed up in (wait for it) floral Laura Ashley dresses. Yes. Really. Sigh. Oh people, my people...Some of you are just so...linear! Still, gotta love 'em.)
Love to my family and friends around the world - Everyone across the U.S. & in West Yorkshire, London, Britain-overall, Sydney & Sweden! Cheers och Hejsan! (Now, enough reading...Please get cracking and start writing! So that I can read YOUR stuff! As I'm clearly more of a reader/commenter than a writer --at least HERE! Thanks!)
